Run for the Roses: Library plans Kentucky Derby-themed gala

The Ridgefield Library will be hosting a Kentucky Derby-themed gala. Committee members, from left to right, Michele Booth, Rob Ellis, Julie Yaun and Lynn Everdell prepare for the 145th Run for the Roses by donning derby-inspired outfits in front of the library.

The 2019 Great Expectations Gala fundraiser for the Ridgefield Library is off to the races —the Kentucky Derby, that is.

The Derby-themed Gala, which will honor Dewey and Paul McNamara, will be held Saturday, May 4, from 6-11 p.m. at the library. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, including traditional mint juleps, while watching the 145th Run for the Roses on the big screen.

The cocktail hour will also feature a hat contest and photo booth.

After dinner, the party continues with a lively piano bar led by a professional entertainer from New York, NY Dueling Pianos.

Guests are encouraged to dress for the Derby. That can mean anything from large, decorated hats to small, jaunty fascinators and simple dresses (keeping the focus on the hat) for the ladies. For the men: bow ties and hats (think fedora or a bowler).

For anyone planning to attend the Gala, the library is offering a hat-making class April 23 from 1- 4 p.m.

The library will be providing flowers, ribbons, bows and all of the materials needed to make a fascinator.

Register on the library’s events page to reserve a spot.

Tickets are $250, and $130 is tax deductible.
