Victories in a pair of relay races led the Ridgefield High girls indoor track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the Class LL state championship meet Saturday in New Haven.
The Tigers had 35 points, one fewer than third-place Fairfield Ludlowe. Danbury scored 74 points to edge Glastonbury (73) for first place.
Twenty of Ridgefield’s points came from the relay wins. Tess Pisanelli, Rory McGrath, Gabby Viggiano, and Grace Michalowski combined to win the 4×800 relay in a time of 9:35.52 (more than five seconds faster than runner-up Trumbull), and Catherine Conroy, Emma Langis, Carolyn Donovan, and Michalowski triumphed in the 1600 sprint medley relay with a time of 4:20.02 (more than two seconds ahead of Hall).
Adding six more points was Ridgefield’s 4×400 relay of Tasha Riek, Langis, Donovan, and Michalowski, which finished third in 4:09.97.
Another six points came in the 1,600-meter race, as Pisanelli finished fourth (5:16.05) and Viggiano was fifth (5:19.16).
Providing one point apiece with sixth-place finishes were Carrina Dabroi in the 300-meter dash (43.93); Elizabeth DeMassa in the 55-meter hurdles (9.60); and Conroy, Dabroi, Donovan, and Riek in the 4×200 relay (1:49.84).
Also finishing in the top 10 for the Tigers were Rebecca Cohen (10th) in the 300-meter dash; Kate Langis (seventh) in the 600; Caitlin Slaminko (eighth) in the 1,000; and Elizabeth Jasminski (eighth) and McGrath (ninth) in the 1,600.
The Ridgefield boys team finished with eight points to tie Enfield for 15th place in the Class LL standings.
Junior Simon Jupp accounted for all of the Tigers’ points with a second-place effort in the 600-meter run. Jupp had a time of 1:24.61, finishing less than a second behind Danbury’s Malcolm Going (1:24.01).
Adding top-10 finishes for Ridgefield were Ethan MacKenzie (10th) in the 1600, and Sam McDonough (eighth) in the 55-meter hurdles.
