Girls hoop: Tigers throttle Staples, 58-27

With seven players scoring seven or more points, the Ridgefield High girls basketball team rolled to a 58-27 victory over host Staples on Tuesday night in Westport.

The Tigers raised their record to 7-3 at the halfway point of the regular season.

Ridgefield led 25-16 at halftime and then outscored the Wreckers, 21-6, in the third quarter. Staples was held to 11 points in the second half.

Andrea Ferrero led the Tigers’ balanced attack with 11 points. Freshman Rebecca Lawrence also reached double figures with 10 points.

Sandy Carpenter added nine points while Andrea Bedard, Carly Mercede and Maggie Scalzo had seven points apiece.

Staples fell to 3-6 with the loss.
