Steidl chosen as Player of the Week

Ridgefield High senior boys basketball standout Kurt Steidl has been named one of the winners of the MSG Varsity FCIAC Player of the Week award for his performance during the week of Dec. 13-22.

Steidl scored 90 points in the Tigers’ wins over Darien, Wilton and Harding, cracking the 30-point mark twice.

The 6’6″ Steidl, who will play Division I college basketball at Vermont next year, led the Tigers with 37 points, including four three-pointers, in a 79-38 win over Wilton on Dec. 20 and scored 30 points to go along with 14 rebounds in an 80-54 win over Harding the following day. He also scored 23 points in a 63-30 win over Darien on Dec. 18.

Ridgefield lost to St. Joseph on opening night but has won four straight games to move into a tie with Norwalk atop the FCIAC Central Division.

Joining Steidl as a winner was Erica Meyer, a 6’3″ sophomore center on the Wilton High girls basketball team.
