Platt promoted to police captain

Lt. Shawn Platt of the Ridgefield Police Department is sworn in as captain by Town Clerk Wendy Lionetti during a ceremony at Lounsbury House Thursday, Jan. 17.

Ridgefield Police Lt. Shawn Platt was promoted to captain Thursday, Jan. 17, at a swearing-in ceremony held in the main lobby of Lounsbury House on Main Street.

Platt has served in the department for 22 years.

“When you first started, you were a flagger on Gilbert Street where I was sitting in a backhoe digging the ditch — so we’ve come a long way, don’t you think?” said First Selectman Rudy Marconi. “For a police officer these days to deal with some of the situations in our community is not an easy task, and we respect each and every member of you members of the department for the jobs you do.”

As captain, Platt will oversee the department’s division of professional standards — a position that was vacated by Jeff Kreitz when he was promoted to chief of police in October.
