Ridgefield Police Lt. Shawn Platt will be promoted to the rank of captain on Thursday, Jan. 17. His promotion ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at Lounsbury House, and will be open to the public.
As captain, Platt will take over leadership of the department’s division of professional standards, a post previously filled by Jeff Kreitz, who was promoted to chief of the department in October.
In his new position, Platt will oversee training, accreditation, the DARE and school resource officer programs, and serve as the department’s public information officer.
Platt has served in the department since 1996. He was selected out of four candidates for promotion.
“He was a detective, youth officer, and DARE instructor for many years before being promoted to sergeant and lieutenant,” said Maj. Steve Brown.
As a lieutenant, Platt served as a patrol shift commander. The promotion makes him part of the police administration.
“The department will hold promotional exams for lieutenant soon,” said Brown.
