Ridgefield girls hockey team routs Amity

Scoring the first seven goals, the Ridgefield High girls hockey team routed Amity/North Haven/Cheshire, 8-2, last Friday night at the Winter Garden.

The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the Tigers, who evened their record at 3-3-1.

Natalie Preveza, Julia Zangre, and Emily Stefanelli had two goals apiece for Ridgefield, which led 3-0 at the close of the first period and 6-0 through two periods. Zangre and Stefanelli each added two assists.

Preveza opened the scoring less than two minutes into the first period on assists from Kate Zangre and Zella Ertl.

Just over two minutes later, Julia Zangre made it 2-0 with a goal assisted by Stefanelli.

Stefanelli then scored with 1:11 left in the opening period on an assist from Julia Zangre.

Preveza added her second goal early in the middle period to extend Ridgefield’s lead to 4-0. Chiara Signorelli followed with an unassisted goal and Julia Zangre scored off an assist from Julia Bongo to put the Tigers ahead, 6-0, at the end of the second period.

Stefanelli’s second goal made it 7-0 with five minutes gone in the final period.

The visitors then scored two straight goals before Ertl finished the scoring on an unassisted goal with 3:24 to play.

Notes: Ridgefield fell to Avon/Southington/East Granby/RHAM/Wethersfield, 4-3, last Wednesday at the Winter Garden.

Avon broke a 2-2 tie by scoring the first two goals of the third period. The Tigers pulled within 4-3 with 6:20 left but could not get the equalizer.

Rebecca Gartner, Aubrey White, and Ertl supplied the goals for Ridgefield, which led 2-0 midway through the second period.

Preveza, Kate Zangre, and Julia Zangre had one assist apiece.

Abby Lamson led Avon with two goals and an assist.
