Community sing-alongs return to Ridgefield Library Jan. 6

With Deborah Katchko-Gray on guitar and leading the vocals, and Gigi Van Dyke on piano, about 20 people who showed up at the Ridgefield Library had all the musical leadership they needed for a room-rocking community sing-along on Sunday, Dec. 16. Folks joined voices on songs ranging from The Beatles to Billy Joel to standards like Take Me Out to the Ballgame and Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land. Katchko-Gray, the cantor of Congregation Shir Shalom, has been organizing community sing-alongs for a couple of years now. The next one is Jan. 6 from 3:30 to 5 at the library. Songbooks with the words are provided, guitars and other instruments are welcome. — Macklin Reid photo

Community Sing-Alongs led by Cantor Deborah Katchko Gray return at the Ridgefield Library Sunday, Jan 6. The library is co-sponsoring these sing-alongs with the cantor in the spirit of Pete Seeger and the singer songwriters of folk, Broadway and the American Songbook. Attendees are invited to bring their voices, tuned guitars, drums, friends, and family of all ages.

The cantor, who leads Congregation Shir Shalom of Westchester and Fairfield Counties, is organizing these events. She has 10 recordings and a love of sharing music. All are welcome. Songbooks are provided. Those planning to attend should register at the library for each sing-along. You may also contact cantordebbie@gmail.com. For more information, call 203-438-2282.
