The Ridgefield High School Visual and Performing Arts Department will stage the romantic comedy Almost, Maine by John Cariani Nov. 15-18 in the school’s Anne S. Richardson Auditorium.

Almost, Maine is set on a winter’s night in the fictional title town near the Canadian border. In a series of short vignettes that take place over the same 10 minutes, the town’s residents find and lose love in various ways. Mr. Cariani, a native of Maine and a Tony-nominated actor, describes Almost, Maine as “a play about real people who are really, truly, honestly dealing with the toughest thing there is to deal with in life: love.” Unique to this performance, the audience will be seated on stage in an intimate forest setting.

The play is directed by RHS performing arts teacher Sherry Cox and features a cast of 16 students. They are Beatrice Altopp, Callie Amill, Eleanor Andresen, Lucy Basile, Annabel Briody, Vanessa Diana, Riley Grossman, Liam Huff, Hannah Jay, Kyra Linekin, Caroline Malley, Thomas Mitchell, Emily Parker, Aman Premji, Sophia Smith and Evan Smolin. Shane Jaeger is the stage manager.

Almost, Maine premiered in 2004 at the Portland Stage Company, where it enjoyed a record-setting run. After a short Off-Broadway engagement in 2006, Almost, Maine gathered a major following through frequent community theater and high school productions across the country. For the past four years, it has been the most-produced play by U.S. high schools.

Almost, Maine will have four evening performances, Nov. 15-17 at 7:30 p.m., and two matinees, Nov. 17 and 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students with school ID and for seniors age 60+. Ridgefield seniors who have a Gold Card may enjoy one show for free but must have the Gold Card with them for admission.

Tickets will be sold at the door. Online sales are at rhsperformingarts.info. Call 203-894-5750 for more information.
