Funeral services for Police Chief John Roche are expected to create traffic delays around the village Friday morning.

Ridgefield police are warning drivers that the service for Chief Roche, who passed away at age 62 last week, will begin at St. Mary’s at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7. The service is expected to last an hour, and will include a flyover from a state police helicopter and a procession around the village featuring officers from around the state.

St. Mary’s church is located at the corner of Catoonah Street and High Ridge Avenue.

“Catoonah St. will be closed tomorrow between the Post Office and High Ridge Ave starting at 9:30 a.m. and will reopen at approximately 11:30 a.m.,” the police said in a Facebook post Thursday, Sept. 6.

“Following the service the procession will travel south on High Ridge Ave. to King Ln. to Main St. to Branchville Rd. to East Ridge Rd. (stopping in front of Police Headquarters) to Governor St. to Main St. to North Salem Rd. to North St. and ending at St. Mary’s Cemetery,” the post read. “Expect delays in the area.”
