Wires down, power out, road closed

Monday, 4 p.m. — A CL&P crew   told fire police at 3:15 p.m. that it will be “a couple hours” before Bennett’s Farm Road can be reopened. However, most power has been turned on in the Ridgefield Lakes area.

High-voltage lines along the road came down around 1:30 this afternoon, knocking out power to 5% of the town.

The wires were  burning in the area of Mountain Road and Whitlock Lane, according to police and fire reports around 1:45.

CL&P reported at 1:45 that 568 of its Ridgefield customers were without power. By 2:45, the number offline was down to 235, and by 4, only 23 were offline.

A power company crew had arrived on the scene at 2:10.

It was not clear what caused the wires to come down.

Bennett’s Farm is blocked between Limestone Road and Whitlock Lane.

Some school buses will have delays in delivering students in that area.
