RHS boys hoop team third in preseason ranking

The season may not start for a few more days, but the Ridgefield High boys basketball team is already getting noticed.

The Tigers are ranked third in the MaxPreps Connecticut Preseason Fab Five, ahead of any other teams from the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Ridgefield, which went 18-7 last season and reached the Class LL state quarterfinals, is ranked behind Windsor and Hillhouse. FCIAC rival St. Joseph, the reigning Class LL champs, are fourth and Capital Prep fifth.

It won’t take long to see how accurate the preseason rankings are: Ridgefield and St. Joseph meet in the season opener on Wednesday (Dec. 12) at 7 in Ridgefield.

The Tigers return three starters in seniors Kurt Steidl and Jeff Racy and sophomore Patrick Racy. Steidl (Vermont) and Jeff Racy (Amherst) will both be playing basketball in college.
