Girls hoop: Tigers squeeze past Westhill

The Ridgefield High girls basketball team edged host Westhill, 51–50, on Friday night in Stamford.

The Tigers evened their record at 1-1 with the victory.

Trailing 48-43 with under six minutes to play, Ridgefield went on a 7-0 run to take a 50-48 lead on Rebecca Lawrence’s basket.

Westhill tied the game, but Sandy Carpenter hit the front end of a one-and-one to account for the final margin.

Carpenter led the Tigers with 12 points. Andrea Ferrero added 10 points, Carly Mercede had seven and Lawrence scored six.

Meg D’Alessandro hit five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points for Westhill (1-1).
