A 36-year-old resident, Matthew Ketterer, facing allegations of inappropriate conduct in Chappaqua, N.Y., was found dead in a New Canaan home on June 26, according to multiple news reports.
Ketterer was a social studies teacher at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua. According to the reports, Ketterer’s resignation had been accepted in February by the Chappaqua school district under the cloud of allegations that he had had an inappropriate relationship with a student. His resignation was to be effective June 30. He had also been a track coach.
Chappaqua had undertaken disciplinary action against Ketterer under state Education Law, according to the Lohud.com news outlet. Ketterer had denied the accusations, also according to Lohud.com.
A New Canaan Police report stated, “The New Canaan Police responded to a residence on Old Stamford Road to check on the welfare of an occupant of that dwelling after receiving a third party call. Upon making entry into the home officers located the individual and summoned NCVAC (New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps) to respond to attempt to provide aid to the individual. The attempts to revive the individual were not successful and the individual was pronounced [dead] by a medic from Norwalk Hospital.”
The cause of death was “compression of neck/suicide,” the Connecticut Medical Examiner reported, according to outside news reports.
According to property transfers in The Ridgefield Press, Ketterer and his wife, Rachele, had purchased a house in Ridgefield, in September, 2016. Reportedly he was renting a room in a house on Old Stamford Road.
