In this week’s Ridgefield Press

On the front page of this week’s Ridgefield Press: Alpacas, bears, and state-champion Tigers — oh my! The boys lacrosse team celebrates its historic upset, North Street welcomes a new four-legged neighbor, and Ridgebury elementary says goodbye to a nurse who has worked there for a quarter century.

Here’s a look at some of the headlines from this week’s Ridgefield Press:

  • The Tigers are champions. Darien boys lacrosse team entered last Saturday’s Class L championship clash winners of 76 straight games — a streak that their FCIAC counterpart was more than happy to snap. Ridgefield now has three state lacrosse titles in its championship display case. Congratulations to head coach Roy Colsey and his players.
  • This week’s Press was school heavy: Retiring teachers, new interim superintendent, middle schools students hosting their own version of “Ted Talks,” and, of course, plenty of scholarship winners.
  • Animals were also in the news: Baby deer, bears, and, yes, an eight-year-old, alpaca named Humphrey. He joins Sheik the camel on North Street.
  • Elsewhere the fight against a proposed outdoor amphitheater off of Sunset Lane has split the selectmen. Will the town forge ahead with this idea or will it be struck down in its infancy? Stay tuned next week.
  • Fourth of July is around the corner and parking tickets are available. Hooray!
  • Of course, before the bombs burst, there is Flag Day today — June 14. A special ceremony will be held in Ballard Park.
