Ridgefield boys team 13th in Nike/US Lacrosse rankings

The ramifications of Ridgefield’s 9-8 upset win over Darien in the Class L boys lacrosse state finals on Saturday are still unfolding.

The victory vaulted the previously unranked Tigers into 13th in the latest Nike/US Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25. Ridgefield also moved into fifth place in the Northeast Top 10.

Darien, which entered the state finals on a 76-game winning streak, dropped from second to 14th in the national rankings and from first to sixth in the Northeast Top 10.

The Blue Wave had won three consecutive Class L championships before losing to Ridgefield in Saturday’s title game.

Culver Academy (Ind.) is ranked first nationally in the Nike/US Lacrosse Top 25. Calvert Hall (Md.) is ranked second and Ward Melville (N.Y.) is ranked third.

At fifth overall, Brunswick Academy in Greenwich is the top-ranked Connecticut team, followed by Ridgefield in 13th place. Darien is the only other ranked team from the state.

Although Ridgefield and the rest of the teams in the top 25 have completed their seasons, the final Nike/US Lacrosse rankings will be released next Tuesday.

Below are the complete top-25 national rankings:
