Manno, Meltzer scholarships available to RHS seniors

Graduating seniors from Ridgefield High School are invited to apply for two scholarships that honor two Ridgefielders who died young. To honor their memories, their respective families have continued to provide scholarships for students who intend to go to college and who qualify.

A special application form is available at the guidance department for the Christopher Manno Memorial Scholarship for Athletic and Academic Excellence.

The award is for $5,000 for the selected student.

There is also a special application form at the guidance department for the Michael Meltzer Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, is awarded to a student with an interest in art and/or music.

The deadline for the applications is Monday, April 16, at noon.

Chris Manno died in 1990 at age 13, just before the start of eighth grade, of Burkitt’s lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer. Michael Meltzer died in a car accident in 1999, shortly after his high school graduation.

“These scholarships are a way to remember these young Ridgefielders by awarding these to graduating seniors,” said Christina Nolan of the Ridgefield Scholarship Group.
