Officer Olivares joins Ridgefield police force

The ranks of the Ridgefield Police Department grew on Tuesday, March 27, when Officer Carlos Olivares was sworn in to the department.

Town Clerk Barbara Serfilippi read the oath in a small ceremony held at police headquarters, the department announced in a post on its official Facebook page.

Olivares won’t be out on patrol just yet — he’s attending training at the Connecticut Police Academy for the next six and a half months.

A military veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Olivares served one tour of duty in Afghanistan and is an active member of the Air National Guard.

He most recently served in law enforcement as a corrections officer for the state of New York, a position he held for more than seven years. Olivares was assigned to the Downstate Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison located in Fishkill, N.Y.
