Telling it like it is

It’s time to tell it like it is. There is no one on the Republican ticket, nationally or locally, that is the right choice for Ridgefield. Voting Democratic — Obama for president, Murphy for United States Senate, Himes for Congress, Curry for state Senate, and Bonistalli for state legislature in the 111th — is best.

Romney flip-flops. He told us that defunding Planned Parenthood, keeping us in Afghanistan until our enemy’s “minds are changed,” and generating revenue by cutting taxes on those earning $250,000 are all good for jobs. Then we learn about a voucher plan for Medicare; he won’t tell us what tax credits he’ll cut — like deductions for home mortgage interest or our kids’ college — and he wants to buy equipment the Department of Defense doesn’t want. What?

United States Senate candidate McMahon — yes McMahon of WWE wrestling shame — not the sanitized “Linda” her campaign gussied up — thinks it is OK for hospitals to turn away rape victims if they don’t believe in providing them a full range of health services. Nice. A pro-wrestler who is pro-getting elected. What a surprise.

Congress? The Republican cannot articulate concrete ideas, or anything that remotely looks like sensible action for the United States and Connecticut. Policy? Heck no, just platitudes.

And at the state level, the sitting state senator and state representative want a coronation, avoiding real conversation, or even acknowledging their multiple years of contributing to issues that need untangling in Hartford. They want your vote because they are “nice,” not accountable. Indeed.

The real leaders for Ridgefield’s future are Democratic. Our moderate, effective congressman, Jim Himes, has an outstanding record of independent votes, compromises and smart ideas. An acknowledged leader, he makes tough calls, and is fiscally conservative. He is solidly pro-choice, pro-business and pro-education. Re-elect him with your vote.

For United States Senate, I’d rather see Chris Murphy fight for prescription drug coverage, jobs and Medicare than someone else fight for blood and guts. The United States Senate is key to insuring we continue the comeback of the United States economy. Elect Chris Murphy United States senator.

Jeff Bonistalli, candidate for state representative, has a mission to serve — the disabled, youth, seniors. He is a graduate of Ridgefield High School and WestConn, and an energetic organizer of youth sports and activities. You’ve seen him everywhere — walking neighborhoods, calling you one on one, participating in charitable efforts. Ready to hold office hours in Ridgefield, not Hartford, attend our local town meetings and work for you, Jeff will be engaged with our town directly. Vote Bonistalli for state representative.

It is time for a change in our state senator. Why isn’t the incumbent talking about the potential negative impact of educational reform on high-performing schools like ours, or, anything else? Carolanne Curry isn’t afraid of the real issues and real conversation. A senior, former business owner and social services professional, she believes in doing more as state senator. So elect her, and get more.

Move forward, with a vote to re-elect Barack Obama president. We’re on the right road.
