Ridgefield runner’s death ruled ‘suicide’

The Ridgefield distance runner who was found dead Sunday died from self inflicted wounds, the state medical examiner’s office said Monday afternoon.

The death was ruled a “suicide, incised wound of the neck,” according to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office.

David Riek, 44, reportedly left his High Valley Road home for an early morning run Saturday but did not return, leading to a massive search involving hundreds of volunteers and state and local emergency personnel.

His body was found Sunday afternoon by volunteers off the side of Florida Hill Road near High Valley Road, where he lived.

  1. A second such tragedy & another case in which it took searchers 2 days to find the missing person near (or at) their home. Is there something wrong with the methodology being used?

  2. Another very sad and tragic situation. May he rest in peace and my his memory be eternal.
