Jessica Alexander will discuss her recently released memoir, Chasing Chaos: My Life In and Out of Humanitarian Aid, at the Ridgefield Library on Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The program is co-sponsored by Books on the Common.
Ms. Alexander arrived in Rwanda in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide as an idealistic intern, eager to contribute to the work of the international humanitarian aid community. The world that she encountered was messy, chaotic, and difficult — but she was hooked.
In Chasing Chaos, she describes the realities of life as an aid worker, managing a 24,000-person camp in Darfur, collecting evidence for the Charles Taylor trial in Sierra Leone, and contributing to the massive aid effort to clean up a shattered Haiti.
Jessica Alexander is a former Fulbright scholar who has worked for various NGOs as well as United Nations agencies. She grew up in Ridgefield and graduated from Ridgefield High School.
