The Ridgefield Senior American Legion baseball team strengthened its hold on the fifth and final state tournament playoff berth in Zone 5 by sweeping host Monroe on Sunday.
Ridgefield won the games by scores of 4-1 and 7-6 to improve its record to 13-10.
Ridgefield is now two games ahead of sixth-place Monroe (12-13) and a half game behind Bethel and Danbury, which are tied for third place with identical 14-10 records.
Ridgefield returns to action Tuesday night with a doubleheader against Oakville at Ciuccoli Field. The games start at 3 and 5:15.
