Robert G. Rockwell, 88, World War II veteran, former resident

Robert G. Rockwell Sr., a former Ridgefield resident, died Monday, May 13, at his home in Danbury at the age of 88, following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wives Grace Rockwell and Ruth Williams.

He was born in Norwalk June 28, 1924, the son of the late George and Myrtle (Arlington) Rockwell.

A veteran of World War II, he served 33 missions with the 8th Air Force, 306th Bomb Group, 367th Bomb Squadron in Thurleigh, England. He attended many 306th reunions, and he served as president of the Bomb Group.

Mr. Rockwell was employed by Nash Engineering and as an estate keeper in New Canaan.

He is survived by four children: Laura Cairns, Christine Dugan, Robin Kinney, and Robert Rockwell; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Sunday, May 19, from 2 to 5 pm. A prayer service will take place at 4:30.

Following cremation, interment will take place at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
