Trailing 1-0 with 26 seconds to play last Friday night, the Darien girls hockey team scored the tying goal in a game against Ridgefield that ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
On Wednesday night, in the FCIAC semifinals, the Blue Wave inflicted even more pain on Ridgefield.
Georgia Cassidy’s goal with 16.5 seconds remaining in the third period tied the game at 1-1 for Darien. Cassidy then added the game-winner with just under four minutes left in the second overtime period to give the Blue Wave a 2-1 triumph.
The loss left Ridgefield with a 12-6-2 record going into the state tournament.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead with eight seconds left in the second period when Meredith Keenan scored on an assist from Anna Marcus.
The score stayed that way until Cassidy’s late equalizer, which forced overtime. Neither team scored in the first eight-minute overtime session.
Ridgefield goalie Heather Ogden stopped 31 of Darien’s 33 shots on goal. Shannon Hall had 15 saves for the Blue Wave.
