Ralph J. Alfieri of Morrisville, Vt., a former Ridgefielder who had been a New York City firefighter, died Thursday, Feb. 7, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass. He was 87 years old.
Mr. Alfieri was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 30, 1925. He attended New York City schools until entering the Navy in 1942, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After his discharge in 1946, he joined the New York Fire Department, rising to the rank of lieutenant. He retired in 1972 and moved from Ridgefield to Morrisville
During his retirement years he enjoyed spending summers and weekends year round with his family and grandchildren on Cape Cod. He was an avid boater and fisherman,
Mr. Alfieri is survived by his daughter, Nancy Sawyer and her husband, Dennis, of Lee, N.H.: a daughter-in-law, Kristy Alfieri of Morrisville; five grandchildren: Amy Mahan of Dover N.H., Brian Sawyer of Mashpee, Mass., Julie Alfieri of Orlando Fla, Dominic Alfieri of Morrisville, and Ralph Alfieri of Mashpee; and two great grandchildren Ryan and Drew Mahan of Dover.
He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa, and his son, Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Morrisville. Interment will be in the spring in Pleasant View Cemetery.
