In a meeting between two of the FCIAC’s better girls basketball teams that lived up to its advance billing, Stamford edged Ridgefield, 45-44, in overtime Tuesday night in Stamford.
The Black Knights improved to 14-3 overall while Ridgefield dropped to 11-6.
The Tigers outscored Stamford, 13-5, in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 37 and force overtime.
Stamford opened a 43-39 lead in overtime before Ridgefield pulled within one on Sandy Carpenter’s three-point play. But the Black Knights sank two free throws and then held on for the victory.
Carpenter led the Tigers with 18 points, hitting two three-pointers. Andrea Ferrero also made two treys and finished with nine points, and Rebecca Lawrence added eight points.
