Wrestling: Tigers eighth at Ridgefield Challenge

The host Ridgefield High wrestling team finished eighth at the annual Ridgefield Challlenge on Saturday at RHS with 91 points.

Twenty teams from three states competed at the event, with Monroe-Woodbury, N.Y., placing first with 176.5 points.

Ridgefield won one weight class title as sophomore Kevin Side triumphed at 120 points. Side edged Alex Baum of Monroe-Woodbury, 5-4, in overtime in the division finals.

Ridgefield’s Matt Philbin reached the finals at 126 pounds, losing, 20-6, on a technical fall to Dylan Realbuto of Somers.

Bobby Philbin of Ridgefield finished third at 98 pounds. He pinned Jack Walsh of Wilton in 1:56 in the match for third place.
