Douglas Sherman, 73, owned security firm

Douglas Walter Sherman, a longtime resident of Ridgefield, died Thursday, Jan. 3, at his home in Southern Pines, N.C., after a short illness. He was 73.

Born September 23, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minn., he was the son of the late Walter and Clara Stoltz Sherman.

Mr. Sherman grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from UCLA. He moved to Stamford and in October of 1967 married Eda Schnitman.

He founded and was president and CEO of Alpha Security, Inc.  in Ridgefield. He was a ham radio operator and past president of the Rotary Club of Danbury Sunrise. He joined the Southern Pines Rotary Club when he and his wife moved to North Carolina in 2010.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Williams, and her husband, Clay, their son, David, and two grandchildren, Jessica and Connor.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Jan.11, in the chapel of the Powell Funeral Home.

Memorial donations in his name can be made to a local hospice.
