Snow closes schools

Updated 5:45 — Area police agencies are reporting accidents and spin-outs. State police in Connecticut and New York area busy with problems, particularly on entrance and exit ramps. Freezing rain is now falling. About three inches of snow on ground.

Wednesday, 5 a.m. — About 2.5 inches of snow have fallen on Ridgefield, closing schools today.

Town and state plows are out, but many roads remain snow-covered.

Wet snow is falling, and expected to continue, possibly changing over to rain later in the morning and continuing as rain showers into the late afternoon as the temperature rises into the mid-30s.

Up to five inches of snow could fall.
