Charles D. Beaumont III

Charles D. Beaumont III of Redding, CT (formerly of Mystic and Greenwich), died January 11, 2013.  He was 82 years old.

Mr. Beaumont was born on March 8, 1930, on the Island of Oahu when the Hawaiian Islands were only a territory of the United States to Captain Charles D. Beaumont, Jr. and  Jeannette S. Beaumont.

Mr. Beaumont graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1948 and the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1953.  He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.  He served in the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, Second Marine Division.  Mr. Beaumont married his high school sweetheart Audrey I. Greenleaf on June 27, 1953, in Washington, DC.  She predeceased him in May, 2012.

Mr. Beaumont and his wife owned and operated Mystic Shipyard in Mystic, CT for over 20 years.  Mr. Beaumont also designed and built the Mystic Yachting Center.  He was a founder of the Bank of Mystic and the Stonington Country Club.  Previously he was Chairman of the Board for The Mystic Aquarium and also a trustee of the Mystic Congregational Church.

He was a long time member of Rotary and worked on their scholarship programs.

Prior to coming to Mystic he was a Nuclear Power specialist with the General Electric Company, managing the marketing of nuclear power stations in the U.S. and around the world.  During his early career with G.E. he handled contract negotiations with the Atomic Energy Commission.  He worked with the United Nations to start the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.

Charles was the loving father of a large family who will miss him dearly.

He leaves his sister Jeannette Cobean, Greenwich, CT and four children, Teresa S. Beaumont of Redding, CT, Gina B. Pelcher (Jack) of Jupiter, Fl., C. David Beaumont IV (Susan) of Nantucket, MA., Steven J. Beaumont of Riverside, CT., eleven grandchildren, William Charles Beaumont (Suzanne) of New Milford, CT, Rebecca B. Talcott (Jim) of Redding, CT, Lindsay Lepage (Matthew) of  Williston,VT , Jeffrey (Beau) Seaver of  Williston, VT, Desiree Beaumont of NYC, NY, Adelle Beaumont of Durham, New Hampshire, Brianna Beaumont of Boston, MA., Kelly Beaumont of NYC, NY, Steven J. Beaumont, Jr. of Stamford, CT, Heather Beaumont of Stamford, CT, Lauren Beaumont of Hartford, CT, and three great grand children Andrew, Gabriella and Isabella and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at the Mystic Congregational Church 43 East Main St., Mystic on Thursday, January 17th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery Mystic.
