Playing yet another top-10 opponent, the Ridgefield High boys hockey team fell to Xavier, 3-2, on Saturday night in Middletown.
Xavier entered the game ranked third in the latest New Haven Register state poll while Ridgefield was ranked fifth.
Trailing 1-0, Ridgefield evened the game on defenseman Henry Gough’s power-play goal late in the first period. Fellow defenseman Jamie Kelly assisted on the goal.
The Tigers (3-3) then went ahead 2-1 when Vinny Rella got a power-play goal early in the second period on assists from Chris Morrow and Kelly.
But Xavier (6-2) answered with two goals to take a 3-2 lead after two periods. Neither team scored in the third period.
Ridgefield goalie Dusty Rausa finished with 20 saves.
