Reigning Division I state champion Notre Dame-West Haven scored three unanswered goals in the third period to down the Ridgefield High boys hockey team, 3-1, in the opening round of the West Haven Christmas Tournament on Saturday at Bennett Rink in West Haven.
Following two scoreless periods, Vin Rella scored to give Ridgefield a 1-0 lead early in the final period.
But ND-West Haven answered with two goals to go ahead, 2-1, and then added an empty net goal to end the scoring.
The Tigers dropped to 2-2 while ND-West Haven improved to 4-0.
