Nancy McGovern, 67, worked for Boehringer, active at St. Elizabeth Seton

Nancy McGovern, a longtime Ridgefield resident who was active in church work, died Wednesday, Dec. 19.  She was 67 years old and the wife of Pat McGovern.

Mrs. McGovern was born Nancy Lynch and grew up in Chicago, Ill., where she graduated from St. Mark’s Elementary School, Sienna High School, and then attended DePaul University.

She married and started her family in the Chicago area and moved to Ridgefield in 1977.

Mrs. McGovern raised her family of five while working. She retired recently from Boehringer Ingelheim, where she worked in many various roles including research and development, and administration.

She was a longtime active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, where she for many years volunteered in the pre-baptism program.

“Aside from family and friends, Nancy enjoyed nothing more than crafting and was always generous with her creations,” her family said. “Nancy was and is a cherished daughter, a loved sister and wife, a kind mother, a great neighbor and friend, and a joyful grandmother.”

Besides her husband, Mrs. McGovern is survived by a son, Brian (Janet) McGovern of Brookfield; a son, Mike (Lisa) McGovern of Greensburg, Pa.; a daughter, Stacey McGovern of Ridgefield; a son, Scott (Kelly) McGovern of Deltona, Fla.;  a sister, Sister Margaret “Peggy” Lynch of St. Mary of the Woods, Ind.; and five grandchildren,  Morgan McGovern, Devin McGovern, Garrett McGovern, Seamus McGovern and Cavan McGovern.

“The family knows Nancy has now joined her youngest daughter Elizabeth McGovern in heaven,” they said.

Friends will be received at the Kane Funeral Home 25 Catoonah St.,  Sunday, Dec. 23, from 2 to 5 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd.,  followed by the burial in St Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Visiting Nurse Association of Ridgefield, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, CT  06877.
