Girls hoop: Ridgefield races past St. Joseph

In an impressive performance, the Ridgefield High girls basketball team pulled away for a 61-39 road victory over St. Joseph in Trumbull on Wednesday night.

It was the second straight win for the Tigers, who improved their record to 2-1.

Ridgefield held an 8-7 lead after the first quarter, but then outscored the Cadets, 34-21, over the next two quarters to open a 42-28 lead entering the final period.

Sandy Carpenter (16) and Andrea Ferrero combined for 30 points for the Tigers, who got scoring from nine players.

Ridgefield was deadly at the foul line, sinking 18 of 22 free throws.

St. Joseph dipped to 1-2 with the loss.
