For the first half, the young Ridgefield High girls basketball team played highly regarded Trumbull to a 20-20 standstill in the season opener for both squads Wednesday night in Ridgefield.
Then the visitors pulled away.
Trumbull outscored the Tigers, 32-17, in the second half to post a 52-37 victory.
Junior guard Sandy Carpenter was a spark for Ridgefield, finishing with 19 points. Carpenter also had the team’s only three-pointer.
Andrea Ferrero and freshman Rebecca Lawrence, playing her first varsity game, each added five points for the Tigers.
Alexa Pfohl led Trumbull with 19 points while Erin Moore added 11.
