Ridgefielders help team place second at college rugby nationals

RHS grads Ally Dykes (left) and Randy Featherstone helped Roger Williams place second at the women’s college rugby nationals.

Senior captain Randy Featherstone and sophomore Ally Dykes, both Ridgefield High School graduates, were part of the Roger Williams University women’s rugby team that finished second at the recent National Small College Rugby Championship in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The Hawks lost to Wayne State College (Neb.), 32-0, in the finals. Wayne State had beaten Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Ohio State during the season.

Roger Williams advanced to the title game with a 20-12 triumph over Albright College (Pa.) in the semifinals.

Roger Williams had defeated Castleton State to win the Northeast region and earn a shot at the national championship. Roger Williams also won a conference championship.

Featherstone, a prop, and Dykes, a flanker, were selected to the National All-Star Team for their performances in the championship tournament.
