RHS football team up to ninth in state playoff rankings

The Ridgefield High football team has moved up to ninth in the latest Class LL state playoff point rankings.

The top-eight teams at the end of the regular season advance to the state playoffs.

Following Wednesday night’s 53-16 rout of Bridgeport Central, Ridgefield is now 7-2 with one regular-season contest remaining: Next Wednesday night’s FCIAC Thanksgiving rivalry game at Danbury (2-7).

Seven teams have already clinched playoff spots in Class LL, leaving Ridgefield as one of six teams still mathematically alive for the eighth and final berth.

The Tigers, who have 840 points, will need to beat Danbury and hope that West Haven, currently seventh with 950 points, loses its finale to Fairfield Prep.

Unfortunately even if Ridgefield beats Danbury and Fairfield Prep beats West Haven, the Tigers’ chances are still slim – since Fairfield Prep has a good shot to leapfrog them into 8th.

In addition to the Ridgefield and Prep wins, Ridgefield also needs an upset or two by Stamford, Wilton, or Norwalk. Tiger fans should also be rooting for Shelton to be upset by Derby, Cheshire to lose to Southington (likely), and Hamden to lose to ND-West Haven (fairly likely).
