Paced by two top-five finishes from senior Courtney Kenyon, the Ridgefield High girls swim team placed 11th at the Class LL state championship meet Wednesday night at Wesleyan University in Middletown.
Ridgefield had 195 points, 28 more than 12th-place Hamden (167).
Greenwich was first overall with 816 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up Cheshire (555).
Kenyon’s best finish came in the 500-yard freestyle, as she was fourth in a time of 5:10.80. She dropped nearly nine seconds from her time (5:19.70) at the Class LL trials.
Kenyon added a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.28, trimming more than two seconds from trials (1;10.96).
Emily Motill also scored points in two individual events for the Tigers. She finished 10th (2:16.06) in the 200 individual medley and 13th in the 500 freestyle (5:26.87).
Adding points for Ridgefield were Sophie Hayes (13th, 1:00.93) in the 100 butterfly and Haley Creamer (20th, 250.25 points) in the diving competition.
The Tigers also scored in all three relay events. The best finish came in the 200 medley relay as Motill, Kenyon, Hayes and Katie Hilliard combined to win the B Final and place ninth overall with a time of 1:55.49.
Motill, Hilliard, Hayes and Kenyon placed 11th (3:50.94) in the 400 freestyle relay, and Spencer Benedetto, Erica Ely, Zoe Hayes and Alex Sabido were 14th (1:51.26) in the 200 freestyle relay.
Notes: The top-24 individual finishers and the top-18 relays scored points in each event.
The diving finals took place on Monday at Middletown High School.
Kenyon qualified for the State Open meet in the 500 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. The top-24 finishers based on time across the four state class meets advance to the Open, which takes place Saturday at Yale University in New Haven.
Also qualifying for the Open were Sophie Hayes in the 100 butterfly and Motill, Kenyon, Sophie Hayes and Hilliard in the 200 freestyle relay.
