Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. — The fire at a multifamily house on Prospect Street was declared “under control” at 8:11 a.m., and eastern Prospect Street was reopened to traffic an hour later.
Firefighters had the blaze “knocked down” by 7:44, but were checking for “extension” of the fire in the walls and ceilings.
The building had several apartments. Everyone got out safely, says a reporter who was at the scene.
A general alarm was sounded at about 7:15 for the blaze.
A unit on the scene said the second floor was “fully involved” at 7:22.
Prospect Street is closed east of East Ridge and Prospect Ridge.
Trucks were beginning to leave at 8:15, but several remained. The fire marshal was on his way to investigate.
