Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. — The fire at a multifamily house on Prospect Street was declared “under control” at 8:11 a.m., and eastern Prospect Street was reopened to traffic an hour later.

Firefighters had the blaze “knocked down”  by 7:44, but were checking for “extension” of the fire in the walls and ceilings.

The building had several apartments. Everyone got out safely, says a reporter who was at the scene.

A general alarm was sounded at about 7:15 for the blaze.

A unit on the scene said the second floor was “fully involved” at 7:22.

Prospect Street is closed east of East Ridge and Prospect Ridge.

Trucks were beginning to leave at 8:15, but several remained. The fire marshal was on his way to investigate.
