Wyeth Hewett Phelps, 47, was born in Norfolk, VA on April 21, 1965. He died in Brockton, MA Nov. 11, 2012.
He grew up in Ridgefield, CT where he was a 1983 graduate of Ridgefield High School and an outstanding soccer player and skier.
He loved dogs and rescued several.
Wyeth was an excellent hunter of deer and birds; once he killed two turkeys with one buckshot for Thanksgiving.
He loved to travel and lived in many states (CT, NY, MN, FL, CO, MA). His favorite work was the challenge of construction and repairs using many different tools and materials.
Two of his hobbies were rooting for the Red Sox and NY Giants.
He attended Camp Dudley, a YMCA camp for boys and Outward Bound.
Wyeth suffered from the debilitating demons of mental illness and substance abuse. At the time of his death after years of struggle, Wyeth had found some peace and support through the Solid Rock Ministry Program in Falmouth.
He will be remembered for his charm, charisma, big heart and strong sense of justice.
He was named after his paternal great grandfather and maternal great grandmother.
Wyeth is survived by his loving parents, Judson and Barbara Phelps of Yarmouthport, MA; his brother Christopher Phelps and sister-in-law Mary, and his nephews Nathan Hayes and Jack Edward of Ridgefield, CT; his sister Whitney Magee Phelps and her husband Troy Soka and their children, nieces Sydney Ruth, Rosamond Sophia and nephew Jacob Putnam of Delmar, NY.
Wyeth was pre-deceased by his beloved grandmother Ruth M. Ray of Yarmouthport, MA and his dear Aunt Carol Ray of Stockbridge and Yarmouthport, MA.
