RHS soccer teams split in state openers

It was a soccer split for Ridgefield teams in a state tournament doubleheader Friday afternoon at Tiger Hollow.

In the opener, the RHS girls soccer team fell to 25th-seed Darien, 2-1, on penalty kicks (3-2) in a Class LL first-round game.

The eighth-seeded Tigers ended the season with a 12-4-3 record.

In the nightcap, the RHS boys soccer team defeated Westhill, 3-0, in a Class LL opening-round game.

The fifth-seeded Tigers, who improved to 16-2-1 with the victory, will now face 12th-seed Stamford in a second-round game tomorrow (Nov. 10) at 2 in Ridgefield.

The winner advances to the quarterfinals next Tuesday.
