Many of these people are leaving the service after having served in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are re-entering civilian life and looking for jobs to support themselves, their families and to become contributing members of our society.
Scotland Elementary School is teaming with the Save-A-Suit Foundation to collect clothes for veterans that they can wear when they go on job interviews and for other professional purposes. Scotland Elementary School will be collecting clothes for veterans from Oct. 22 through Oct. 26. Besides the Scotland families, we are inviting any Ridgefielders who would like to support this effort to bring the clothes they wish to donate to Scotland School during our collection.
The Save-A-Suit Foundation will collect the clothes from Scotland School when the clothing drive is over, clean them and have them ready to distribute to veterans, both men and women, on Veterans Day. What better way to show our respect for Veterans Day than to participate in this clothing drive. Imagine how great this will be for veterans, receiving special attire that they can wear when applying for a job or as they begin a new career outside the military.
Scotland School will be collecting men’s and women’s suits and other professional business attire. Only new or gently used clothing in good condition will be accepted. Scotland School will be collecting the following: suits, blazers and sports jackets, vests, dress shirts and blouses, ties, skirts and dresses, belts and cuff links, dress pants and shoes
We are not able to accept undergarments, ripped or torn attire, items missing buttons or with stains, casual shoes, casual clothing or sneakers.
Bins will be set up in the entrance of Scotland School to accept donations from Oct. 22 through Oct. 26. Next to the bins will be a clipboard. We are asking that donors list what they are donating and their e-mail address. This information will be used by the Save-A-Suit Foundation to e-mail a receipt for tax purposes to the donors. The information will not be used for any other purpose.
I cannot think of a better way to honor our veterans than to donate clothing to help them as they transition from military to civilian life. Please make a veterans day a little brighter on Veterans Day. Go through your closets and donate what you can.
